Well, it’s been a day and then some since Sonic Diet has shared new music (week-long vacations usually have hefty time-related repercusssions of catchup), so consider this a new leaf of new music that we’ll give you each day as a herald to fall (happy October).
Fall is undeniably the busiest release season for music departments in college radioland, so when the kids go back to school, they dig into tons more new music. We’ve been happily buried in a pile of audio awesomeness (Superchunk, Grinderman, Miles Davis’ legacy edition of Bitches Brew, Budos Band, Matthew Dear, Underworld and so on and so on).
One of our favorites is a band neighbor to Milwaukee by way of Minneapolis. Dark Dark Dark, puts forth a new full-length today called Wild Go on Supply & Demand. Vocalist/pianist/accordionist Nona Marie Invie makes the band with her gloomy alto and classically-tinged piano skills. Chorused vocals, sweeping instrumentation and cabaret flippancy make this release sparkle. Take a listen to the first two tracks from the new album. As the track titles imply, the sound is dreamy, but definitely in an angsty way. The band gets set to tour the Midwest, East Coast, France and the UK from now until the end of November.
