“The public brought me back. I tried to leave the event at year five. I felt that was a nice note to end on.” Jordan Lee, creator and host of Milwaukee’s Miltown Beatdown told OnMilwaukee.com this past week. “But, the city and the hip-hop scene here demanded that the event come back. Producers like Heavywait and White Russian were trying to sign up before I even announced dates. The masses came to me and said, ‘Bring this event back!’ So, I did. It feels right, and this has been our most successful year to date.” And good thing the city spoke up, because tonight’s finale (at Turner Hall) of the Beatdown (now in its sixth year) is looking to be a phenomenal show of talent and the exciting directions Milwaukee hip hop is headed into and that national hip hop is paying attention, too (high profile Young Guru is part of tonight’s event). Listen up, Minneapolis! You might not be the only Midwest mecca for hip hop after all. Tonight’s lineup is testament to this.
