Tune into WMSE’s Blues Drive today with Sonia for a three-hour, show-long tribute to the late, great Hubert Sumlin. Sumlin passed away earlier this week and will be missed for his well-known kind nature and legendary fast finger-picking. Rolling Stone named the Mississippi-born musician one of the ’100 best guitarists of all time’ and he was inducted to the Blues Foundation Hall of Fame in 2008.
To celebrate the life and work of Sumlin, Sonia will be hosting her own special tribute, featuring an interview she did with Sumlin, a look back at his career in music, and some recollections from other musicians he performed with. Tune in today, starting at 3 p.m. to celebrate the life of this Chicago blues colossus and enjoy the above footage from The American Folk Blues Festival of toe-tapper, “Come On Home Baby”, recorded in 1964 in Germany with Sumlin on guitar, Sunnyland Slim on piano and vocals and Willie Dixon on Bass.
