“(Cate) has all the ingredients for what it takes to be the next big thing in female art-pop: a strong persona, a unique voice, and a confident songwriting craft.” PASTE Magazine says, and for a modern Welsh folk-singer, Cate (Le Bon) has already been pretty busy working on building up that strong persona to those outside her realm of Cardiff, Wales, releasing 2009′s Me Oh My to much positive press and opening for St. Vincent’s most recent tour. Listeners and critics have been honing in on Le Bon’s droll lyrical style and her unabashed love for swirling and mystical folkloric pop that feels much more shimmery than dusty in the nature of its recall of 60′s and 70′s-inspired storytelling. Check this in action in her above video for “Fold the Cloth” off of her forthcoming release, CYRK, out January 17th.
