Tonight, one of Milwaukee’s most interesting and storied voices will take the stage to celebrate the release of a new batch of songs. Martha Cannon (of Lady Cannon) may croon sweet slo-core tunes most of the time on her latest release, Whiskey Dear, but she throws in arresting curveballs, such as a solid 60′s pop powerhouse moment on the powerful creeper “What a Man”, grabbing the vocals of Grace Slick by the throat and willing them as her own. Fans of Hope Sandoval (Mazzy Star) and Nancy Sinatra, too, take note — if you like your music full of equally sweet and sinister moments, Whiskey Dear will be enjoyed. Listen to a stream of the album, here, and tune into 91.7 FM WMSE at 1 p.m. today to hear Cannon talk about the release show at Club Garibaldi’s tonight with Chicago’s Unicyle Loves You.
