Wednesdays in May at WMSE will be where you can tune in and absorb some of the invaluable sounds of storied and talented local folk artists. At 4 p.m. in the weeks to come, we’ll be welcoming this year’s participants in Milwaukee’s Charles Allis Art Museum’s Allis After Hours American Roots Music Series — last week, we welcomed Milwaukee’s walking folk music encyclopedia, Lil’ Rev and Rev gave listeners the history of folk music’s Jewish immigrants and previewed his performance that night at Allis, centering around his program called Jews Of Tin Pan Alley which highlighted the works of Al Jolson, the Gershwins, Irving Berlin, Aaron Lebedoff and more.
Today, we welcome Fox & Branch to WMSE in preface of tonight’s date at Allis tonight and Allis writes, “Dave Fox and Will Branch play a timeless kind of music. Their crowd-pleasing mix of old blues, jug band songs, fiddle tunes, New Orleans-flavored numbers and Cajun tunes makes people stop and smile. The duo has played to appreciative audiences at clubs, festivals, schools and libraries all over the Midwest, east coast, and south to Louisiana. Their recordings have received critical acclaim in the folk music press and are played on folk radio across the United States and Canada. Join them for a night of straightforward and upbeat style on songs ‘from times far removed from here.’”
Tune into 91.7 FM WMSE today at 4 p.m. to listen or stream live or in the archives at WMSE.org.
