Liars is a hard band to classify — strangely constructed from the trio of Angus Andrew (vocals/guitar), Aaron Hemphill (percussion, guitar, synth), and Julian Gross (drums) and their collective backgrounds spent in Los Angeles and New York, the scene they relay is grim and disorienting, but in the most beautiful lights. Droning and dancing, smashing and lilting alternately, the band never stays in one place and their live performances are an apt reflection, Andrews’ intense performance that of a slightly insane intellectual trying to send back what he’s absorbed of the world.
WMSE is an official sponsor of Liars’ Mad Planet appearance this July, and we are already busy pining away for that show and the new album. To ease the pining, we’ll leave you with a single/video from that album, “No. 1 Against The Rush”, below. In typical Liars’ style, the song and scenery are more than little moody and disturbing, but satisfying, nonetheless. These boys might be odd, but they do odd with style. Learn how to pronounce the new album,(WIXIW) too, in the added video. Yeah, we know. Not super helpful, but is anything fun ever very helpful?
