Channeling The Feelies, Devo and the Terrible Twos and infusing uncomfortably enjoyable slabs of soul, funk and jazz into every nook and cranny of their high-energy weirdo-punk, Fergus & Geronimo’s newest release for Hardly Art Records, Funky Was the State of Affairs, is a head-bopper and even with its oddball quirks and forays into spoken word is get-withable. Excerpt example: “Hi, I’m Heather Strange, and I’m a 23-year-old human earthling female”, a girl explains in between songs. “Really, I’m just looking for a man whose cerebral capabilities haven’t been fried by LCD screens yet.” “The Strange One Speaketh” sums up the album’s attitude nicely with primary focuses being aliens, drones, parties and wiretapping. Modern young adults and their take on ‘this is the modern world’. Expect this one to arrive on August 7th and listen to a track, below to get an idea.
