Because of a complete freak accident with one of the band members of Drumlins — (our proposed Local/Live guest for tonight…nothing serious, don’t worry!) this week’s Local/Live is canceled. Hoping that they’re on the mend and can be in the studio with us another time, soon! With that, tune into and check into WMSE’s Local/Live next week — we’ve got the next couple of weeks mapped out for you on the WMSE home page.
Who better than Big Business to soothe the absence? Big Business plays Shank Hall tonight at 8 p.m. and you can bet they will provide enough sludgy stoner goodness to fill the live sonic void that Drumlins were set to create on our airwaves. Just re-direct to Shank and read/listen up on Big Business if you are unfamiliar. The band started as a two piece – Jared Warren of Karp and The Tight Bros From Way Back When, and Coady Willis of Murder City Devils. Their sound is a little kooky, a little over the top and plenty intense (fans of the Melvins, take note: Warren and Willis both currently play with the Melvins). A recent review of a live BB show states, “Big Business wasted no time reminding the audience what the first two acts lacked: personality. There’s something so animated and fun about what they’re doing that one can’t help but be carried along on tides of riff-filled manna.” Check out their video for “The Drift”, below to get an idea of the riffery and the fun.
