Local music is always numero uno with WMSE, but when this said-local music includes work by a WMSE DJ, we not only tend to get really excited, we also tend to feel pretty proud. Signaldrift, founded by Franz Buchholtz (of Sometime Sweet Susan fame) in 1998 was joined in 2005 (after several solo releases) by WMSE’s own bts.wrkng/John Goelzer [Mondays, 9 p.m. – 12 a.m.]. Two Agents is Buchholtz’ and Goelzer’s first collaborative release and will be limited to 500 vinyl-only copies. Listen below to two tracks from the double-LP, full of influences from Wire to Eno.
Signaldrift releases Two Agents tonight at the Mad Planet. Also playing is longtime Milwaukee electronic maestro, Casino Versus Japan (recently relocated to Lexington), who will be performing in his former hometown for the first time since 2001 (right after CVJ’s Go Hawaii was released). A new/old CVJ album, Night On Tape, has recently been put out, featuring previously unreleased material, with plans to release new material on Carpark Records. Los Angeles’ Nudge will open, of whom the band’s own Brian Foote recorded Two Agents for Signaldrift. Show starts at 9 p.m. 21+
