Tonight On Local/Live: J Flash

Jay Flash

Listen to J Flash’s songs and therein lies a strange and beautiful cross between the childish simplicity of Daniel Johnston, drawn to flights of fancy, and the ocassional sonic noodlings and elements of Animal Collective, with  spacey-y, underwater instrumentation. Flash’s atypical singer/songwriter style utilizes his socially-conscious lyricism and patient songcraft to create songs grounded in sincerity and are often accompanied by various musician friends who fill out Flash’s Mark Kozelek-like acoustic guitar work. Flash’s third album, Know, Alone is an introspective-but-realized mixture of folk, pop and experimental sounds, with thoughtfully-arranged parts. Indie Milwaukee says of the album, “It can foster a personal experience…and at the same time, make the artist stand out in their consciousness'”.  Tune into 91.7 FM tonight at 8 p.m. to hear J Flash perform, live, on Local/Live, or stream online at Missed out? Catch it in the WMSE archives.
