Ronson to D’Angelo to The Roots to DeNiro to Peacedrums

1. Okayplayer has the latest leak from Mark Ronson’s next album, Record Collection. It’s called “Glass Mountain Trust,” and is just as synth-heavy and dancey as everything else leaked so far. (The Girlina Show will no doubt be playing this heavily as soon as it hits our stacks.) And while I still think the track with Q-Tip is the best of the batch so far, this one is more noteworthy because IT FEATURES D’ANGELO! It’s not every day the mighty D pops up on a track. It’s also not every day you hear his incredible voice over a mildly grating synthesizer selection. But it’ll have to do while we still wait for that Voodoo follow-up.

2. Speaking of Okayplayer/The Roots and D’Angelo:
I’ve been a fan of The Roots and D for a LONG time now. Yet somehow, I’ve gone without knowing about this site until today. It’s all of ?uestlove’s celebrity encounter stories. And dude has some good ones. I’ve only read a few, but my favorites so far are the Robert DeNiro piece, and the one featured in the screencap– a story about De La Soul, that also involves Prince and D’Angelo’s previously mentioned perfect album (see above). I’d say he should write a book, but I’d be late to the punch.

3. And speaking of Robert DeNiro:
A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, Jon Mueller turned me on to a band called Wildbirds & Peacedrums. Some of you saw them open for St. Vincent at one of the 190 shows she played here over the last couple of years. (Which I’m very grateful for, by the way.) For others, this will be your first exposure to them. The image above is from one of the latest Takeawayshows sessions, and features the band playing one of my favorite songs of theirs in the gym that Mr. DeNiro was trained in when he played Jake LaMotta in Raging Bull. How’s that for coincidence? You can watch the entire video here.
