Neil Young: Le Noise

Neil Young

“Walk With Me”

“Sign Of Love”

Dubbed ‘Le Noise’ for Young’s pal Daniel Lanois (who produced Young’s latest release), Le Noise is not only a tribute to Lanois in title, but an apt title, at that. Young’s guitar, cranked through a fuzz pedal, is the main instrument that backs his legendary storytelling voice. A recent Dusted magazine review asked, “What does Neil Young have left to prove?” Well, plenty. On Le Noise, Young is still shaking the demons off his heels and doing it with all the spirit and vehemence of a preacher man. The juxtaposition of Young’s hollow-ghost twang and his crushed up chords leaves him out of breath and sounding like he’s got nothing to lose, wrestling those social and political wrongs with all his muster. Backed by the occasional Lanois tweak and encouragment, Le Noise is one of Young’s most triumphant and solid releases to date. Listen to the first two tracks, “Walk With Me” and “Sign of Love”, above.
