If you tune into WMSE on Monday afternoons, perhaps you’ve caught DJ ERA’s voice and musical styling over the airwaves for WMSE’s Monday Blues Drive [3 p.m. – 6 p.m., CST]. ERA plays a homey and rootsy mix of old-school rock and blues, favoring Irma Thomas and Bob Dylan; a nice and easy travel back in time down dusty musical roads paved with timeless classics, of which modern blues takes its cues.
A new transplant to Milwaukee, DJ ERA has fast become involved in the Milwaukee music scene, but not through WMSE, alone. A talented songwriter and singer (as well as a writer for local arts publications), ERA has spent her short amount of time in Milwaukee connecting with local like-minded musicians to perform solo and collectively at venues such as Linneman’s Riverwest Inn and Art Bar in Riverwest. Unfortunately, also in that short amount of time, ERA was robbed, her guitar and laptop among the stolen items. Unable to continue to create and record without both of these, ERA is hosting a benefit tonight at Linneman’s with her friends, Jay Flash and Adam Helwin to help get herself up and running as a creating musician in Milwaukee once again.
ERA will be stopping by WMSE on Dori’s show today at 2 p.m. to talk more about the benefit, her talented musical pals Jay Flash and Helwin and to play some songs from their collection recordings. The benefit show starts at 8 p.m. tonight at Linneman’s (1001 E. Locust Street). 21+ Tune into WMSE at 91.7 FM on your radio dial or stream online at WMSE.org.
