Kneel to Neil: Le Local Noise

‘Happy birthday, dear Neil Young’. Milwaukee has said this every year, for the past six years, in song, hosting its annual Kneel to Neil tribute and benefit at Linneman’s Riverwest Inn just in time to celebrate Young’s birthday (November 12th).  Local musicians take their renditions of classic and new Young songs and throw their energies into their most beloved picks, giving the audience a chance to absorb  their favorites in a new light. This year, Linneman’s plays host to musicians from Trapper Schoepp & the Shades to The Aimless Blades and Jeremiah Nelson, and although the event takes place nearly a week after the birthday-fact (Saturday, November 20th), the ideals behind the show are still sincere — in addition to being a tribute, all funds collected from attendees will go to benefit The Bridge School and 91.7 FM WMSE.

For those unfamiliar with The Bridge School, its mission is “to ensure that individuals with severe speech and physical impairments achieve full participation in their communities through the use of augmentative and alternative means of communication (AAC) and assistive technology (AT) applications and through the development, implementation and dissemination of innovative life-long educational strategies. The Bridge School is an internationally recognized leader in the education of children who use augmentative and alternative communication and has developed unique programs and trained highly skilled professionals in the use of state of the art assistive technology.” Kneel to Neil is helping The Bridge School to in turn, help its special-needs students.

And for those unfamiliar with Neil Young, this is a great opportunity to introduce oneself to his vast catalog, adding a local twist. Will any of the performers pick tracks from Young’s latest epic release, Le Noise? Only one way to find out…Young’s latest would be a perfect opportunity for an adventurous singer-songwriter to hone in on Young’s self-proclaimed “folk-metal” tendencies. Let’s see if any of them take the challenge. Catch a couple tracks  in our previous post on Le Noise, *here*.

The sixth annual Kneel To Neil takes place at Linneman’s (1001 E. Locust Street) on Saturday, November 20th at 7:30 p.m. 21+
