“If Only I Had Run”
It’s been over a year since local pop quartet Testa Rosa has played a show and even longer since their first, self-titled release made Milwaukee sound *that* much cooler with their effortlessly beautiful, vintage-meets-modern songs, ringing with lovely vocal harmonies from guitarist/keyboardist Betty Blexrud-Strigens. The group, which includes Damian Strigens (guitars/vocals) and Paul Hancock (bass) and now with full-time drummer Bill Backes added to the mix, picks up where they left off with their aptly-titled album II.
The album, recorded in part at the now-closed, storied Madisonian Smart Studios with Beau Sorenson and in part at Howl Street Studios with Shane Hochstetler in Milwaukee, is an eleven-track gem that plays out as both sweet and plucky. Even in the most sparkling moments that the band easily musters, the music always comes across as substantial, full-sounding and well thought out. Listen to If Only I Had Run”, above, and listen to the band perform additional songs from II on 91.7 FM WMSE tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. [CST] for a live, in-studio session. Missed out? Check out Testa Rosa’s live WMSE performance in the WMSE archives.
Testa Rosa releases II at Club Garibaldi’s (2501 S. Superior) on Friday, November 26th with Golden Coins. 9 p.m. 21+
