So, Superchunk fans: where are you planning to be this Thursday evening? If you’re a good fan, you’ll already have your tickets to the iconic ’90s band’s upcoming performance at Chicago’s Metro (tomorrow, Thursday, December 2nd). Don’t have ’em? Um, check *here*, but don’t count on it.
If you can’t go to the show, at least get a small hit of the running flashback the band started with their first release in nine years since 2001’s Here’s to Shutting Up. Posted below are parts one and two of WMSE DJ Melissa’s [Wednesdays, 12:30 p.m. – 3 p.m.] interview with guitarist/vocalist Mac McCaughan (and apparently singing/speaking voices really do sometimes transfer in real life). Today, catch part one of the interview, recorded earlier, on Melissa’s show, and also take a listen below to hear the entire lowdown on everything from Merge to Go Back Snowball and Superchunk’s Milwaukee experience at the famed and defunct Unicorn.
The band from Chapel Hill released Majesty Shredding on their self-created (founded by McCaughan and bassist Laura Ballance) and mainstay label, Merge, this past September, and has been scooping up as much genuinely positive press as they were apt to do back in the ’90s. PopMatters relays, “Majesty Shredding makes a strong case for Superchunk, no matter if it’s to a new generation of would-be fans or as a welcome reintroduction to long-time followers.”
