Old Man Winter has been giving the Midwest the deal of its lifetime lately. Cold, snow and snow and cold have been back to back for the last couple of weeks, so tonight’s show at Turner Hall Ballroom should be a welcome start to that mental thaw that heralds thoughts of springtime and more shorts-appropriate weather (now we know some consider any weather to be shorts-appropriate weather). Sunny California’s Best Coast and Wavves will surely be sending rays of warm-weather-inspired music over the stage and audience at Turner Hall Ballroom tonight. Expect lots of jangly and distortion-pumped guitar lines with loads of surf pop undertones. Best Coast’s Bethany Consentino has a pretty obvious penchant for the simplistically-penned, but catchy girl-group songs of decades gone-by, but amps her dusty influences off with an equal love of grunge-y 90’s rock music. Opener No Joy will more than ably kick out those doldrums alongside Best Coast with their female-vocaled and shoegaze/Sonic Youth appeal.
Best Coast, Wavves and No Joy perform tonight, February 10th at the Turner Hall Ballroom [1032 N. 4th Street]. 8 p.m.
