Parts & Labor may be based in Brooklyn, but they’ve got a good deal of Milwaukee buried in their workings, namely from drummer and current Milwaukee resident, Joe Wong. The three-piece delved into Milwaukee even moreso on their forthcoming release Constant Future, on Jagjaguwar Records [March 8th]. According to Jagjaguwar, “For the actual recording, Parts & Labor settled into a former boxing ring in Milwaukee to track the record themselves, with drummer Joe Wong leading the charge.” Constant Future was then co-produced and mixed by Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mogwai, MGMT) in New York, who easily helped portray the band’s dense and complex qualities to their best advantage. Two years of writing show that the band is just as strong and as anthemic as ever, layering electronics amongst the angular rock sounds they lay down, vocalists BJ Warshaw’s and Dan Friel’s youthful voices sounding over it all, calling to mind Secret Machines and …And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead, to name only a couple. Check out track, “Rest”, below and keep an eye out for Constant Future in the coming week. The band will be playing a string of shows, including performances at SXSW in Austin, Texas, stopping through Milwaukee at The Cactus Club on Monday, April 18th.
