words by Brigitte Kiepert
There are songs that no matter what, will always put you in a better mood. There are songs that make you want to dance around because you feel the music in your bones. Music that can make you feel — now isn’t that the greatest? Milwaukee’s own, The Wildbirds, deliver their songs as stories on their latest (live) EP, When I’m With My Friends. A little bit of country, a little bit of rock ‘n roll, The Wildbirds bestow a very organic feel to their latest album that will surely strike a chord with listeners.
“When I’m With My Friends,” is a perfect example of this — the video (as well as the entire album) is shot in band member, Hugh Masterson’s living room. Not only was Masterson and the band in the company of their usual friends, but the band lucked out to have musicians and friends Alan Cote [The Championship], Nathaniel Markman from Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes as well as Mark Waldoch from The Celebrated Workingman. The Wildbirds will be playing tonight in Riverwest at Mad Planet (9 p.m.). Head down there with a crowd and soak it all in. Because at the end of the day, what is better than music and good company?
