WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In Turn Up): Absolutely “Yosemite”

Milwaukee’s three-piece punk powerhouse, Absolutely, has been around for long enough to quietly build up a loyal local following, mostly via their excellent and compact live performances. Now, the band is ready to kick it up a notch with a new full-length  — Learns to Love Mistakes — recorded by Shane Hochstetler last fall at Howl Street Studios. “Yosemite”, the third track on the new album, features layered and melodic guitars from George Ananchev (also on vocals), heavily thudding bass from Andy McGuire and nimble, yet strong drumming from Charlie Hosale; very 90’s punk, yet not in a dusty nor blatantly nostalgic way. The guitars churn furiously enough to propel Absolutely far enough away from the hallowed hallways carved out by their peers, Cap ‘n Jazz, Gauge and Unwound, and allow them to find new ears to sink their heavy sounds into. Catch them at the Cactus Club coming up on Saturday, April 23rd.
