WMSE Song of the Day (Tune InTurn Up): Atmosphere “Just For Show”

The Minneapolis hip hop group Atmosphere, [rapper Slug and producer Ant], have just busted out their seventh, The Family Sign [Rhymesayers]. 2008’s When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That S*** Gold, gave Atmosphere a bigger name, but maybe it’s this one that will give the group more credibility than just the hype catchy rhymes and beats can build. The Family Sign has some of Atmosphere’s most sincere writing to-date and Rhymesayers says, “[it’s] Atmosphere’s most personal and intimate album yet; it involves and engages the listener like never before. Slug’s signature voice weaves in and out of Ant’s ASR-born production, Nate Collis’ bluesy guitar riffs and the sound of Erick Anderson’s unmistakeable keys giving The Family Sign a fresh, unique edge without sacrificing Atmosphere’s signature sound.”
