WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In Turn Up): Young Widows “In and Out of Lightness”

Young Widows

The Louisville, Kentucky trio has come a long way since their first days spent on the revered indie rock label Jade Tree (for their debut 2006 release Settle Down City),  from wonderfully abrasive and vimtastic hardcore-tinged post-rock to a wider, spacier and deeper sound more reminiscent of former tour mates, Pelican, Young Widows are turning up the heavy with their latest, In and Out of Youth and Lightness [Temporary Residence Ltd.]. Layers of vocals, thudding bass lines and trigger happy fuzz and reverb brings the band to an exciting new angle on the more sinewy side of rock. Catch Young Widows live, at the Cactus Club [2496 S. Wentworth] on Sunday, May 15th and check out the title track, below.
