Songs About Baseball: The Baseball Project Visits Milwaukee

What do Steve Wynn, Scott McCaughey, Linda Pitmon, Peter Buck and Mike Mills do when they get songwriter’s block in the springtime? They take on a concept album about baseball, of course. ‘The Baseball Project‘ recently put together their second such collection about America’s call to sports, combing the history, the spirit and the dedication that fans and participants have built up since the game’s inception. Combining plenty of humor and enough sincerity makes their album Vol. 2: High and Inside [Yep Roc Records] one that will resonate with anyone who has ever held a glove or a bat, listened on the radio or sat in a stadium to simply watch. With a contributing roster of members of Yo La Tengo, The Decemberists and The Hold Steady, Vol. 2 is one that will also appeal to non-baseballers as well, on account of it’s broad inclusion of indie rock favorites.

Tune into 91.7 FM WMSE today at 2 p.m. CST to hear a live interview with Scott McCaughey of The Baseball Project on Andy Turner’s Zero Hour show [Fridays, 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.]. At work? Stream online at WMSE.org. Missed out? Catch the interview in the WMSE archives.

The Baseball Project plays at Turner Hall Ballroom [1034 N. 4th] tomorrow, May 28th at 8 p.m. for an all-ages show. The Mike Benign Compulsion opens up.
