WMSE Song Of the Day (Tune In Turn Up): Blueprint “So Alive”

Ohio-raised rapper, Blueprint has been hard at work since the late 90’s, and  has gotten solid attention little by little through his hard work and a little bit of help from a sweet collaboration with the popular RJD2 on 2002’s Deadringer for the track “Final Frontier”. Since, he’s collaborated with RJD2 in the group Soul Position, and has gotten additional attention not just from that, but his continuously creative solo work. Blueprint’s latest, Adventures in Counter-Culture, arrived last spring on Midwestern label, Rhymesayers, and PopMatters (as well as others) admires its modern mind, “The album ebbs and flows through its 15 tracks, each one playing part in a larger role of capturing Blueprint’s purpose, which is to create a hip-hop album that goes against the grain of today’s formula for success.  The album is an admirable proper return for Blueprint, and while it may not live up to his classic 1988, it’s a bold step in a direction that very few have dared to take in recent memory.” Check out a track from Adventures in Counter-Culture, above and see Blueprint, live, at Stonefly this Saturday, as he plays alongside Milwaukee’s Juiceboxxx and dancefloor pro, Rafter for WMSE’s Radio Summer Camp.
