WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In Turn Up): Richard Buckner “Thief”

Richard Buckner’s latest album Our Blood [Merge Records] took about five years to piece together, but not because he was sitting at home, mulling over restructuring chord changes and what effects pedals to use. He had some valid hurdles — watch the live performance of “Thief” off of Our Blood, above, and directly after, an interview — it’ll clue you into how many and how high. Buckner knows very well  life sometimes throws one some curves on occasion just to see what the reaction’ll be. Thankfully, for all those curveballs and such, Buckner’s latest collection turned out as nicely as it did. This past week, it’s WMSE’s Radio 200 most-played album, and it’s no wonder why (aside from Buckner’s beautiful performance for our recent Radio Summer Camp event at Linneman’s) — its hushed and intimate qualities are magnetic and the perfect wind-down for those down-tempo summer into fall months.
