Tonight On Local/Live: Wamsley

Wamsley’s new EP Light Waves and Sound is a great audio showcase for the  Milwaukee trio, centered in straight-up pop and rock and heavily indebted to the genre’s tough-versus-melodic sound that the late ’90s/early ’00s brought into place. Bassist/vocalist Nick Zwirlein echoes a bit of the voice of Milwaukee post-punk outfit Hey Mercedes’ Bob Nanna and drummer Paul Hinterberg follows suit also in that band’s math-y foundations. Minimal but strong bass lines, intricate drum layers and a bit of crunch in reverb, fuzz and discordant-to-melodic keyboards by Wesley Falk provide an interesting take on the rock parade. Tune in to 91.7 FM WMSE tonight at 8 p.m. to hear a live performance from Wamsley — either 91.7 FM on your radio dial, or stream live (or in the archives) at
