WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In Turn Up): Julianna Barwick “Vow”

words by Brigitte Kiepert

Earlier this year Julianna Barwick released her debut album, The Magic Place (Asthmatic Kitty Records). The album could easily be placed as one of the more unique albums of 2011. Barwick’s history of spending time in church as a child blatantly chimes through her music today; a digital update on sacred hymns, if you will. Barwick has taken a few tracks from The Magic Place and has recently collaborated with others to put an electronic sway on her ambient sound.  Barwick teamed up with Diplo and Lunice to recreate, “Vow.” The dose of beats work incredibly well with Barwick’s smooth, almost trance-like sound.
