WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In, Turn Up) David Lynch “The Night Bell With Lightning”

Do we even have to use the words ‘oddball’, ‘weird’ or ‘unsettling’ to describe anything David Lynch-related? Probably not. The Pro of the Perplexing is pretty famed for being off his rocker, creating an atypical soundtrack and scenery via music, television and film.  His just-released Crazy Clown Time carries the shadowy eeriness into more of a pop-oriented collection than he’s been wont to create, although Lynch vouches that the album is rooted in the blues. He recently told the LA Times, “…I like the ideas of the blues, some kind of modern take on the blues. That was an inspiration for each jam. I would think about a gasoline-powered guitar, a dirty sound. It doesn’t all stay dirty, a lot of it gets cleaned up, but I really like dirty music, electric music. I like the idea of electricity, when a guitar gets plugged into an amp. That moment is a thrill beyond the beyond. It’s just euphoria to me.”
