WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In, Turn Up): Yellow Ostrich “Whale” live on KEXP

A lot of folks are excited to welcome Wisconsin’s Alex Schaaf back to his home state this Sunday. In full-circle fashion,  the former Appleton resident  (most-recently known for his pop band, The Chairs) has since relocated to NYC  and has gone full-speed with his project Yellow Ostrich which had its beginnings in Wisconsin. Now as a fully-realized band (with Michael Tapper on drums and Jon Natchez on bass, horn and vocals), Yellow Ostrich and Schaaf revisit the Midwest with those beginnings as full and highly-applauded songs on the recently-released The Mistress (Barsuk Records). Schaaf’s boyish vocals, incessantly impeccable loops and sweet-souled pop should be a nice way to cap off the weekend by way of  a stop at Milwaukee’s Cactus Club this Sunday.
