WMSE Song of the Day (Tune In, Turn Up) Beats Antique “Revival”

Beats Antique proves  once again that dance music is not dead, globalizing it and giving it a a special appeal by making it even more accessible to folks that dig both world and dance in their listening queue. The trio from Oakland (David Satori, Tommy ‘Sidecar Tommy’ Cappel and Zoe Jakes) describe their interests as “dirty old funky pretty stuff”, and their latest release, Elektrafone makes that very apparent. Listen to “Revival” from 2010’s Blind Threshold and take a peek at the video directed by Ivan Landau with some pretty cool illustrations by Leighton Kelly. It’s highly visual and keyhole-esque — a totally different world which belies the same atmospherics the group’s music gives off. Beats Antique stops by Turner Hall Ballroom this Saturday, November 26th.
