For WMSE’s Kickstarter Christmas, we, along with the Tonic Tavern, gathered fifteen Milwaukee musicians to offer their take on some holiday classics and originals. WKC is set to match up with WMSE’s current effort to replace our in-house digital live-broadcast recording studio, which after thirty years of supporting and documenting local artists, has taken quite a lot.
It’s this dated and deteriorating equipment that could soon preclude us from recording and broadcasting live in-studio performances, altogether. A WMSE without live, local music? A WMSE without a Billy Cicerelli to record those Milwaukee musicians? We’d like to think…not a chance! So, with this sentiment, this special Kickstarter project is intended to help even more in the outfitting the new studio and produce the Best of Local/Live at WMSE with a goal of $30,000 to raise by December 22nd.
Seeing this need, Milwaukee musician and proprietor of the Tonic Tavern, Paul Jonas, approached the station about doing a special event on behalf of the Keep Live Music on WMSE project. “I have long recognized the importance of WMSE’s role in documenting local and national music through its live broadcasting and recordings. My staff and I wanted to have a special event, not only to raise money for WMSE, but also to raise awareness about this important project.”
Jonas’ WMSE Kickstarter Christmas begins at 8 p.m. at The Tonic Tavern (2335 S. Kinnickinnic Avenue) this Sunday, December 18th. There will be a $5 cover of which all proceeds go to the project to Keep Live Music on WMSE. There will also be a raffle to benefit WMSE and the Tonic Tavern plans to donate a percentage of the entire days sales to WMSE Kickstarter project.
