Alverno Presents Gives Light to the Timeless Songs of Stephen Foster

WMSE is honored to be a part and present at this Saturday’s Stephen Foster tribute, aptly dubbed a ‘project’ through its connector attributes, paying mind and memory to the ‘Father of American Music’. Foster penned songs popular in their mid-19th century time and those songs remain popular to this very day — melodies and subject matter that although simple, are deep enough to ring out through the years and retain a timelessness that is enough to have modern musicians build upon those songs in a way that is fresh, but rooted in its original ideal.

Straight from David Ravel, Director of Alverno Presents: “We’re getting a lot of good attention for Beautiful Dreamer: The Foster Project, this Saturday, February 2nd, 8PM at the Pitman. From the A.V. Club, Shepherd Express, Third Coast Digest, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and Milwaukee Magazine. We are proud and elated at the crack team of punk rockers, alt-countriers, rappers and singer-songwriters assembled by Juniper Tar’s Ryan Schleicher for this one-of-a-kind, one-night-only-event in celebration of Stephen Foster, the first American pop-star.

This Christopher Porterfield video will give you a lovely taste of only some of what to expect. Excited yet? We definitely are. Buy your tickets online, give us a call at 414.382.6044 or visit us in person at the Pitman Box Office between Noon-6PM on weekdays. 2PM to show time this Saturday.”
